Working at Home with Wee Ones
Sandi Valentine on Aug 8th 2007
The question of the hour, at least at my house, is : How do I write with a baby climbing my leg? My daughter is just getting mobile, and she wants to do EVERYTHING just like mommy….much to mommy’s dismay.
I’ve developed the following coping mechanisms. Feel free to comment and submit yours.
- Preparation is Key. Before I barricade my daughter and I in the office to begin writing, I make sure we have everything we need close at hand. Snack? Check. Toys? Check. Box of scrap paper for her to dig through? Check. Hey, it makes a mess, but it buys me at LEAST 1/2 hour of uninterrupted time. And that, my friends, is priceless.
- Just Like Mommy My daughter is much more likely to cooperate with my work at home dream if she gets to work, as well. She has her own keyboard, and spent twenty minutes yesterday staring industriously at Green Eggs and Ham, typing away!

Can you string an interesting sentence together?
Is being able to write for money your dream job?
Can you use correct English grammar?
If so, writing web content might be for you.
There are many marketers on the web looking for people to write for them. These marketers are often willing to outsource work that they don’t have time to do, for a fee.
Here are some examples of this type of site. All are free to join.
There are also sites such as www.associatedcontent.com , that pay you for your original articles. Associated Content accepts articles on a variety of topics: how to’s , restaurant reviews, opinion, book and movie reviews. They pay from $3 - $21, through your paypal account. I generally make from $8.00 to $11.00 for an article, and depending on the topic can write one to two an hour. Most importantly, AC is free to join.
