The Pomodoro method makes me happy - I think I'm going to do a whole blog post about it sometime this month or in early August. I've found that juggling my own business and homeschooling creates quite a bit of anxiety and stress, and if I don't keep things under control, I end up frustrated and kicking myself while I stare at a blank screen with writers block. NOT a good situation when you get paid by the piece ;) Taking regular breaks means I work much, much longer days, but they're broken up quite a bit so it doesn't end up being so stressful and hectic.

Very very good points! I really like the idea of the Pomodoro method. I will have to look further into it. And I love the starship analogy *geek out*. But that is also a very good idea. I tend to have a lot of stress, much of it is self induced because I get angry at myself for what I perceive as a failure if I don't get to something. Or haven't been able to do something yet. I'll try doing that and see if it helps me as well.
I do something similar with my son on the timing - I have a robot on my iMac that yells "Ethan time!" after 20 minutes of work. Then he knows he can have my full attention for 10-15 minutes. I recharge, he gets to show me the latest drawing or whatever. Then it says "Work Time" and he knows I have to work and he gets to "work" on his toy laptop, a painting, a worksheet, or whatever. It works for us.

I quit cold turkey, but not by choice ;) My mother died suddenly in 2006, when my first daughter was only three months old. I had a bad bought with grief and post partum depression, and ended up losing my full time job. I worked online for awhile while I recovered, and when I felt better and attempted to return to a full time job in my field (mental health), I quickly realized I was making more online from home than I could working outside the home in my area. So I decided to make the jump to full time from home, and haven't really looked back since :) Everyone's individual situation is different - you might want to consider freelancing part time, building up an emergency fund, and then making the jump, or you might already be in a position to make the move to full time.
